The Mint's primary purpose is to produce and arrange for the production and supply of coins of the currency of Canada. It also competes on the world market for contracts to produce circulating and numismatic coins and other devices such as trade dollars for foreign governments and private firms. The Mint also operates refineries to melt, assay and refine gold, silver and other metals.
